Myth 1: Chocolate is rich in caffeine
Fact: It is true that chocolate wakes you up, but there’s no caffeine. Half or 90 grams of chocolate contains about 6 milligrams of caffeine, which is as much as 250 milliliters of chocolate milk. By comparison, 250 milliliters of coffee, depending on the type, contains 65 to 135 milligrams of caffeine.
Myth 2: Chocolate is rich in saturated fats and its bad for your cholesterol
Fact: Several studies have shown that stearic acid, the main saturated fatty acid in chocolate milk is is known as an acid that does not increase blood cholesterol.
Myth 3: There is no nutritional value
Fact: Chocolate contains magnesium, copper, iron and zinc, and polyphenols, antioxidants typical for tea and red wine, which is believed to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease – the same amount has chocolate of 50 grams and a cup of 150 milliliters of wine. Even more healthier is the dark chocolate, which is rich in flavonoids. There are serious studies about the positive effects of bioflavonoids, also known under the name vitamin P.
Myth 4: It creates cavities
Fact: Cavities are produced when bacteria in the oral cavity decompose any food high in sugar or starch and acid which is produced slowly destroys tooth enamel. On the contrary, protein, calcium and phosphate in chocolate protects the tooth enamel, and because of the fatty cocoa butter, sugar, chocolate remains less time in contact with the tooth enamel. Of course, proper brushing is indispensable.
Myth 5: Causes headache
Fact: For a long time it was considered that chocolate is one of the triggers of a migraine, but there are more studies that can dispute that. Confirmed triggers for migraines are cheese, peanuts meat products and alcohol.
Myth 6: Causes Acne
Fact: In the last 20 years, numerous of studies made by top dermatologists believe that there is no link between the diet and acne. Sole culprit for their appearance is oily skin and increased levels of bacteria in the body.
Myth 7: Chocolate is making you fat
Fact: Every food is healthy, if its consumed with moderation – every doctor will tell you this. When you eat a tray of 90 grams of chocolate, this means you entered almost 500 calories. So, if you are on a reductive diet intake of 1,200 calories per day, this means that you have already entered and more than a third, which means that it can eat chocolate when you’re on a diet, only if you eat low-fat groceries for the rest of the day.
